Hometowne Collectibles, Decorative Block of Collierville High School with history summary on back: "COLLIERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, alma mater to thousands of area students from 1905 to 2005, was established in 1905 as a member of the Shelby County Schools system. The Town of Collierville, 10th Civil District, had private schools from the mid-1800s. Public education became available when the Bellevue Female Academy became the Collierville School, part of the Shelby County system. The original old buildings were restored and the main building was replaced with a new school in 1934/35 built by the Works Project Administration. This school, on its 11-acre campus, was home to all 12 grades until 1960 when the Collierville Elementary School was built, and 1975 when Collierville Middle School became home to the 6th through 8th grades. Several additions to the campus included the new Band Room and the Vo-Tech building, administrative offices and classrooms. In 1995, a new Collierville High School was built on Byhalia Road, and this building became Collierville Middle School. The FRIENDS of the Collierville Burch Library appreciate your support with this project." |
